High Quality GRP Grating Products

Grating Direct supplies GRP grating panels, also called fibreglass or FRP grating, from UK stock: open mesh in 25mm, 38mm and 50mm thicknesses, mini mesh from 14mm to 38mm thick, covered top in 28mm and 41mm, and a 48.5mm interlocking structural slab. Every panel has an anti-slip surface and will not rust, and GRP grating is used across water treatment, food production, chemical processing, offshore and rail sites. We can cut panels to your sizes, free of charge in most cases.

Buying GRP grating: a quick guide to the range

GRP grating (glass reinforced plastic, often called fibreglass grating) is a moulded panel of continuous glass fibre set in resin, finished with a gritted anti-slip top. It will not rust, it is far lighter than steel and it can be cut on site with a diamond blade and dust extraction, or cut to size by us. That is why it has replaced steel open mesh flooring across water treatment, food production, rail, marine, agricultural and chemical sites. Everything in this category is held in UK stock and priced online, so you can see exactly what a panel costs before you order.

1. Choose the mesh

TypeWhat it isBest forPanels from (ex VAT)
Standard open meshOpen mesh (38 x 38mm, or 50 x 50mm on 50mm panels) with a gritted topWalkways, platforms, trench and drainage covers£120.00
Mini meshA much finer mesh with the same gritted topBusy pedestrian areas, heel-friendly walkways and places where small items must not fall through£198.00
Covered topA solid gritted surface with no open areaMezzanines, riser covers and anywhere liquids or objects must not pass through£142.00

2. Choose the thickness

Thickness sets how far a panel can span between supports and how much it flexes underfoot. As a guide, 25mm suits pedestrian walkways on short spans, 38mm covers most industrial walkways and platforms (it is our best seller) and 50mm is for wider spans and heavier loads. Mini mesh comes in 14mm, 25mm, 30mm and 38mm, and covered top in 28mm and 41mm, with a 48.5mm interlocking structural slab for heavy duty covers. Check your span against our GRP grating load and span tables, or read how to choose the right GRP grating thickness and load rating.

3. Choose the panel size and colour

Our 25mm and 38mm open mesh panels are stocked in 1985 x 996mm, 3010 x 966mm, 2440 x 1220mm and 3660 x 1220mm, in grey, green or safety yellow, and there is a hi-viz orange panel in 25mm and 38mm for hazard zones. Mini mesh and covered top sizes are listed on each product page. If none of the stock sizes fit, we can cut panels to your dimensions, free of charge in most cases: see GRP grating cut to size.

4. Add fixings, trims and supports

Panels are held down onto their supports with 316 stainless steel M clips and joined to each other with C clips. A pack of eight M clips suits a panel of around 3m x 1m. Finish exposed edges with a GRP grating ramp, and where steelwork would corrode, support panels on GRP I beams and equal angle. Our fixing guide shows how the clips go on.

5. Prices, discounts and delivery

Prices are shown ex VAT on every product. Buy five or more grating panels and a bulk discount comes off automatically in your basket: 5% on 5 to 9 panels, 10% on 10 to 14 and 15% on 15 or more. You can compare every size side by side in our GRP grating price guide. Orders placed by 12pm are normally dispatched the same working day for next working day delivery, although this is not guaranteed. Larger panels travel on a pallet, and local customers can collect from our unit in Earith, Cambridgeshire. Not sure which panel you need? Call 01480 570001 or request a free sample.

Frequently asked questions

What is GRP grating made of?
GRP stands for glass reinforced plastic. The panels are moulded from continuous glass fibre bonded in resin, usually an isophthalic polyester, with a gritted anti-slip top. The result is a strong, lightweight panel that does not rust, does not conduct electricity and never needs painting. Read more in what is GRP grating and where is it used.
What sizes do GRP grating panels come in?
Our 25mm and 38mm open mesh panels are stocked in 1985 x 996mm, 3010 x 966mm, 2440 x 1220mm and 3660 x 1220mm. 50mm open mesh and 25mm and 38mm mini mesh come in 3660 x 1220mm, while 14mm and 30mm mini mesh come in panels 1007mm wide and up to 4007mm long. We can cut any panel down to the size you need.
How much does GRP grating cost?
Prices start at £120.00 ex VAT for a 25mm open mesh panel, and 38mm open mesh starts at £182.00. Per square metre, 38mm open mesh works out from about £92.05 ex VAT. Our GRP grating price guide compares every size, thickness and mesh type.
Do you cut GRP grating to size?
Yes. We cut from our standard panel sizes and in most cases the cutting is free. More complex cuts may carry a charge, which we confirm on your quotation. Cutting large panels down can also reduce your carriage cost if the order fits on fewer pallets. See GRP grating cut to size.
Which GRP grating is best for walkways?
For most industrial walkways 38mm open mesh is the standard choice: it spans typical support centres, drains freely and has a gritted anti-slip top. Choose mini mesh where people walk in everyday footwear or small items could drop through, and covered top where nothing can pass through the floor. Our guide to GRP grating for walkways has more detail.
Can GRP grating be used outside?
Yes. GRP grating is suitable for internal and external use. It does not rust or rot, it needs no painting or galvanising and the gritted surface stays slip resistant in wet weather.
Do you offer trade or bulk discounts?
Yes. Bulk discounts come off automatically in your basket on our grating panels: 5% on 5 to 9 panels, 10% on 10 to 14 and 15% on 15 or more. For project quantities ask for a bespoke quotation, and most purchases also earn a discount voucher towards your next order through our loyalty scheme.
Can I collect my order?
Yes. Local customers can collect from our unit on the Harradines Industrial Estate, Earith, Cambridgeshire PE28 3QT, Monday to Friday between 9am and 6pm. Please call 01480 570001 before you set off so we can have your order ready.
Do you deliver across the UK?
Yes. Orders up to about 100kg are sent by courier on a next working day service, although delivery dates are not guaranteed, and heavier orders travel on a pallet network. Pallet deliveries need a forklift on site for items over 2 metres. The Scottish Highlands and Islands, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man are priced at checkout, and for delivery outside the UK please ask us for a quotation.
