Made by pulling continuous glass fibres through resin, pultruded GRP gives an excellent strength-to-weight ratio along the length of the profile, without the weight, rust or maintenance of steel.
Specified across water treatment, chemical processing, offshore and rail sites, our profiles resist corrosion, chemicals and UV with no painting cycle and no hot-work permits for on-site cuts. Available as a 120 x 70 x 8mm I beam in 2000mm or 4000mm lengths and a 75 x 75 x 10mm equal angle in 1500mm or 3000mm lengths, with steel I beam brackets. GRP pultruded profiles: buying guide
Pultruded GRP profiles are made by pulling continuous glass fibre through resin and a heated die, giving a constant cross section with most of its strength along the length of the profile. The result is a structural section that is far lighter than steel, will not rust, does not conduct electricity and can be cut to length. We stock the profiles most often needed to support GRP grating, plus the brackets to fix them.

How the profiles work with grating
A typical trench or riser cover uses GRP equal angle fixed around the perimeter as a seating ledge, with GRP I beams spanning the opening wherever the grating needs intermediate support. Space the beams to suit the span of the grating you have chosen (our load and span tables show the limits for each thickness), fix the beam ends with the steel brackets, then clip the panels down with M clips.
Material and standards
Our GRP I beam is made from isophthalic polyester resin reinforced with E-glass fibre and finished in grey, with good corrosion and UV resistance. Is GRP as strong as steel?
